Scourge of the Space Invaders sends Scourgeyworks nothing
Short version: your game is saved on your phone. If you use Google Play Games, a cloud save and your high score are kept in your own Google account. There is no Scourgeyworks account, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. Google does pass Scourgeyworks a record of each purchase, plus crash reports and statistics from players who let Google collect them.
What the game keeps
- No account, no servers. The game has no Scourgeyworks account and sends nothing to Scourgeyworks. There are no ads, no analytics, no crash reporting and no tracking, and it never asks for your location, contacts, camera or advertising ID.
- On your phone. Your progress, ship designs and settings are saved on your phone and are erased when you uninstall the game. The live wallpaper runs on your phone too and sends nothing anywhere.
- Cloud save, if you use Google Play Games. While you are signed in to Play Games, the game saves a copy of your progress to the hidden app area of your own Google Drive: your pilot name (whatever you typed), credits, experience, skills, inventory, ship and AI designs, and some settings. Google stores it; Scourgeyworks cannot see it.
- High score. If you are signed in to Play Games, your best score goes to the Google Play Games leaderboard under your Play Games name, where other players can see it.
- Purchases go through Google Play, which handles the payment under Google's privacy policy. Scourgeyworks never receives your card or payment details.
- What Google passes on. Through Google Play Console, Google gives Scourgeyworks a record of each purchase (order number, product, price and country); crash and “app not responding” reports from players who let Google collect diagnostics (device model, Android version and where in the game's code it went wrong); and overall statistics such as installs, ratings and countries. Scourgeyworks uses them to handle purchases and refunds, keep sales records and fix bugs.
- Google Play services, which the game uses for Play Games, can send Google its own diagnostic and usage data. That is covered by Google's privacy policy.
- Permissions: internet and network state (for Play Games and purchases), vibration, billing, and the live wallpaper.
Why this data is used (the legal basis)
- To provide the game and its purchases. The cloud save, the leaderboard and the purchase records are used only to provide the features you choose and to handle what you buy. The legal basis is performance of a contract (UK GDPR and EU GDPR, Article 6(1)(b)).
- To keep sales records that tax law requires (Article 6(1)(c), legal obligation).
- To fix bugs. Crash reports are used to find and fix problems in the game, a legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f)). You can object to this (see Your choices), or turn off usage and diagnostics sharing in your phone's Google settings.
Google's part, and data outside the UK
Google runs Google Play and Play Games, which handle the game's purchases, cloud save and leaderboard. Google is responsible for that data under its own privacy policy and its own rules for children. Google may store and process this data outside the UK and EU, including in the United States, under the safeguards described in its privacy policy.
How long it is kept
- Your saves stay on your phone until you uninstall the game, and in your Google account until you delete them there.
- Purchase records are kept as long as UK tax law requires sales records to be kept.
- Crash reports and statistics stay in Play Console for as long as Google keeps them there.
Your choices
- Erase what is on your phone by uninstalling the game.
- Delete the cloud save from Google Drive: Settings → Manage apps → Space Scourge → Options → Delete hidden app data.
- Stop sending your high score in the game's Settings → Submit Scores.
- Get a copy of your data, correct it, or have it deleted: email support@scourgeyworks.com. If you are unhappy with how your data is handled, you can complain to the UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or to the data protection authority where you live.
Your rights. Under UK and EU data protection law you can ask to see the data held about you and get a copy in a machine-readable file, have it corrected or deleted, restrict its use while a question about it is sorted out, and object to its use for fixing bugs. Email support@scourgeyworks.com to use any of them; you will get an answer within one month.
Children
Scourge of the Space Invaders never asks for a player's age or contact details; the pilot name can be anything and is only kept on the phone and in the player's own cloud save. Whatever a player's age, the only data Scourgeyworks receives is what Google passes on (above). Play Games and its cloud save are Google's, under Google's own rules for children.
Who is responsible, and contact
